Baltic Horizon Fund’s primary focus is to make long-term investments into commercial real estate located in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The portfolio currently consists of 12 properties. The last building to receive its certification was the historic Galerija Shopping Center in Riga that received an impressive BREEAM Very Good certification.
Over the last 2-3 years, we have strengthened our commitment to ESG, and we have made considerable efforts to integrate ESG factors into our investment strategies and operations. We are truly excited that we have accomplished a major ESG goal for our portfolio that we set in 2021. Achieving 100% BREEAM certification is a significant achievement, because it is not without challenges to obtain certifications for buildings that have been in operation for many years. Baltic Horizon’s asset portfolio consists of retail assets (55%), office buildings (40%), and leisure (5%). In 2021, the portfolio of office buildings received BREEAM certification, and in 2022, a retail portfolio certification plan was implemented with the goal to have a 100% certified portfolio by the end of 2023.
BREEAM certification is one of the world’s leading sustainability assessment systems for buildings, developed by the British BRE Global. The assessment evaluates building design solutions, quality and eco-friendliness of materials and technology used, general sustainability, comfort of premises for end users, maintenance level and other environment-friendly solutions and features.
Baltic Horizon is dedicated to advancing not just environmental goals but ESG goals across the board. The Fund recently maintained its four-stars rating in the annual GRESB assessment. Northern Horizon, the management company of Baltic Horizon Fund, has set an ambitious target to reach net zero emissions from operations for all managed funds by 2030. This target includes Baltic Horizon Fund.
